Four things decide whether a plow fits: your truck's class, whether the truck's manufacturer approves it for plowing, whether the front axle can carry the plow's weight, and the undercarriage (mount) built for your exact year, make and model.
Half-ton pickups
F-150, Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500, Ram 1500. Boss's HTX line is built for half-tons. We carry HTX V-plows in 7'6" and 8' and HTX straight blades in 7' and 7'6".
- The HTX mounts on its own HTX undercarriage, not the RT3 mount the full-size plows share.
- It uses Boss's 13-pin wiring with SL3 LED headlights rather than the newer Cold Front system.
- D-Force down pressure is available on the HTX straight blades, not the V-plows.
- For ice control, Boss makes a smaller tailgate spreader sized for half-tons — ask us.
3/4-ton and 1-ton pickups
F-250/F-350, Ram 2500/3500, Silverado and Sierra 2500HD/3500HD. This is where most of the Boss lineup lives, on the RT3 undercarriage — which also lets one plow move between RT3-equipped trucks.
| Plow | Type | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| DXT | V-plow, dual trip · 8'2", 9'2" | Heavy commercial lots; D-Force available |
| XT | V-plow, full trip · 8'2", 9'2" | Driveways, residential and light commercial |
| TEV | Stainless trip-edge V-plow · 8'2", 9'2" | Clean scrapes on smooth commercial pavement |
| Super-Duty | Straight blade, full trip or trip-edge | Wide, open pushing; simpler and lighter |
| EXT | Expandable straight blade · 8'–10' | Parking lots |
| Drag Pro | Rear plow | Back-dragging from doors and docks |
Adding a spreader? A VBX+ 1.5- or 2-yard hopper fits most 3/4- and 1-ton pickups (bed length and payload permitting), and a TGS tailgate spreader mounts on a Class 4 receiver.
Single rear wheel or dual rear wheel (dually)?
3/4-ton trucks are single rear wheel (SRW). 1-ton trucks — the 3500/350 series — come as SRW pickups or dual rear wheel (DRW) "duallys," and 1-ton chassis cabs are built as DRW. The plow choice is the same either way: the plow hangs on the front axle, so the front axle rating decides how much plow your truck can carry. Where DRW helps is the back of the truck — more rear axle capacity for a loaded hopper spreader, a dump body or ballast.
1-ton chassis cabs (Silverado 3500 HD Chassis Cab and similar)
A chassis cab is a 1-ton truck sold without a pickup bed so it can be upfit with a dump body, flatbed or utility body. Chevrolet's 2026 Silverado 3500 HD Chassis Cab comes in Regular Cab and Crew Cab, on dual rear wheels, with 60" or 84.5" cab-to-axle lengths and a max GVWR of 14,000 lb.
- Plows: it takes the same full-size Boss plows as a 1-ton pickup — the DXT, XT, TEV, Super-Duty and EXT — on the undercarriage for your exact truck.
- Spreaders: a 1.5- or 2-yard VBX+ suits a dump or flatbed upfit, depending on body length and payload. The 3-yard VBX+ needs 15,000 lb GVWR or more, which is above the Silverado 3500 HD Chassis Cab's 14,000 lb max.
- Plan the body and the plow together. The upfit body, the spreader and the plow all count against the truck's ratings, so we look at the whole build before quoting.
Medium-duty and municipal trucks
Step up to the Heavy-Duty straight blade or the 10' DXT, both rated for medium-duty trucks. For ice control, the 3-yard VBX+ needs a truck of 15,000 lb GVWR or more.
Skid steers, loaders and sidewalks
Box plows fit skid steers (standard SAE J2513 quick-attach), backhoes and loaders; the QUICKCUBE spreader runs off a skid steer's hydraulics. For walkways, Boss's sidewalk vehicles run 34" to about 39" wide.
What we check before we quote
- Manufacturer approval. Some trucks aren't approved for plowing, and some need a factory snowplow-prep package.
- Front axle rating. The plow's weight has to fit within it; we'll also talk ballast if your truck needs it.
- The mount. The undercarriage is specific to your truck's year, make and model.
- Electrical. Cold Front (current full-size plows) and 13-pin (HTX and older setups) aren't interchangeable.
